On Sunday I sent y’all some Polaroids related to the birth and passing of the music titan Robert Johnson, as well as some thoughts on how artists can depict the past. I didn’t, however, share any of the photos of the stones placed at his possible burial locations. So now are three of my favorites, one from each location.
All photos Leflore County, Mississippi, this one at Mt. Zion in July of 2020, with Polaroid SX-70
At Little Zion, with color SX-70, 2021
At location two—this is actually a color photograph, the film a little overwhelmed by the bright sun reflecting off the stone, 2021
And here’s the great Muddy Waters, responding politely to the blunt questioning of an interviewer, talking a little bit about Robert Johnson and how he thought Son House was just about as good.
AS ALWAYS I am gorjusjxn on Instagram and you can see more Polaroids at McCartyPolaroids.
